Bicycle Tour Hohe Wand 1.8.2007

Today it is nearly cloudless, but not really hot. Still undetermined where to ride today, I start with my recing bike. After a short detour to Zweiersdorf (included a pushing area on a country lane) I change in direction Maiersdorf. Near the tollgate for the road up Hohe Wand, I spontaneously decide to try the ascent. However, I ride only to the first roadcrossing at the beginning of the plateau.

Between Netting and Zweiersdorf this stunning mulleins near the road.

From this point there is a good view to the western parts of Hohe Wand, with Zweiersdorf before.

Zweiersdorf

View to the eastern Fischauer mountains ...

... and once more to Hohe Wand.

View back to the entrance of Prosset gorge.

Shortly before the tollgate: Jakobs´ ragwort (Senecio jacobaea)

Jakobs´ ragwort (Senecio jacobaea)

Prickly Restharrow (Ononis spinosa)

Wild Marjoram (Origanum vulgare)

Pasture at the foot of Hohe Wand, near the road. Where the car is driving, the road makes a sharp curve (reversement)to the right, leading steeply up the slope, afterwards winding between the escarpments up to the plateau.

Mind the ridge in the centre of the picture: the "Skywalk", ...

 ... zoomed in maximally.

Half way up there is a stunning panoramic view. This is the view in southwestern direction, along the escarpments.

Zooming in to Kienberg, with Maiersdorf before. In the background Rosaliengebirge and Bucklige Welt.

Muthmannsdorf with Groessenberg behind, Leithagebirge on the horizon, ...

... hier this time zooming in.

Back at the foot of the walls: Wiesen - Alant (Inula britannica)

Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis)

View from the crossroad beneath ruin Emmerberg to Hohe Wand, Stollhof the foreground. In the saddle of the ridge is today´s point of return.

A final view to Schneeberg, from the same place.
