Summer Holiday in Crete August 2007

After several years of desire by my family, we booked a two weeks´ holiday in the Magic Life Club Lyktos near Ierapetra on the Greek island of Crete.

Ierapetra, the southernmost town of Europe (35th degree of latitude, more southern thanTunis!) is situated on the south coast in Cretes east, more than 100 km from Crete´s main city of Heraklion. In the surrounding there is rank soil with numerous greenhouses, where tiny bananas typical for the region were grown in former days; however, those bananas did not fit into the rules of the European community, thus they could not be exported. So, currently, those greenhouses are used for growing vegetables in winter. In the surroundings of Ierapetra, there are high mountains. The sea is crystal clear here and quite warm in August. The Magic Life club offers a comfortable ambience and lots of sporting possibilities.

Apart from two mountain bike tours, I did three walks (driving with the car to good places) and a one day boat cruise, not to forget two shopping tours to Ierapetra.
