Summer Impressions 21.7.2013
After more than a week of work in the house, we decided to relax a bit today and ventured out for a short bicycle ride. Regarding itīs high summer, the visibility is exceptionally clear, maybe due to the strong Northeastern wind. The temperature isnīt too high - 27 °C mid afternoon.
Best, dry conditions for the wheat crop. No need to use glyphosate to kill the plants and get the grains dry. Good that this madness is now prohibited by Austrian law.
Due to the clear weather, Schneeberg can be seen pin-sharp. Still small amounts of snow despite of the recent weeks of very warm weather.
Sun flower fields here and there.
Panoramic picture with Schneeberg, Hohe Wand and the Fischau mountainsīin the background. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.
Hohe Wand
Schneeberg
Straw balls (NOT hay!) still laying around after the crop. No need to remove them and keep them dry - the next rain is forecast in 4 days.
We reach the pond in Neusiedl/St. Egyden
Back via Saubersdorf. Wheat crop, Getriedeernte, the harvester-thresher is raising a lot of dust in the wind.
Once more a sun flower field.
Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is flourishing along the Mori beck..
Another sun flower field, which has suffered from the wet weather in early summer - the bare area was flooded by a huge puddle which has drowned everything.
