Holiday in Carinthia 4. to 11.2. 2012
A holiday week in Oberaichwald near Lake Faak. We are accomodated in Dorfhotel Schoenleiten, from where we do day tours to the surroundings. There is a dayly ski bus shuttle to the small ski arera of the Dreiländereck near Arnoldstein, and there is a small frozen lake nearby (The much larger Lake Faak is too deep to be frozen yet despite the recent extreme coldness). There also are activities organized by the hotel management. The kids have booked a three day´s snowboard course - a must for every Austrian teenager to be "in".
The weather is of the mixed sort, apart from the fact that it is extremely cold all time - summit daytime temperatures are about -20 °C, in the morning in the dales about -15°C. After a day of ice skating on Sunday, I join a small group of snow shoe walkers on Monday, in dull and overcast conditions and snowfall. Tuesday is skiing at the same weather. Wednesday the sun is shining, and the snow shoe group goes for a walk on Dobratsch, which I prefer to join. Thursday once more skiing, this time only with Klara, because Marlene has broken her upper arm (near the shoulder) - on her last snowboard downhill on Wednesday. Friday should see me once more on the piste with Klara, but the ski lift at the Dreilaendereck was broken, and as I had joined with the hotel bus, I did not get an opportunity to drive to a different skiing location. So I took my mobile, left Klara at the smooth practicing slope downhill (and the short practicing lift), and walked up along the piste, with ski boots and the skis on the shoulder - about 2/3 (400 m) of the height difference.
Pictures only from Sunday and Wednesday, because on Dobratsch, my camera (electronically) died and could not be reanimated.
