Schneeberg June 26th, 2019

Today, I brave the heat; with Herwig Gießwein the Fadensteig up Schneeberg. Herwig wants to walk down, I want to preserve my knees, so I have booked a ticket for the train down at 1:15 p.m. We meet up at 7 a.m. at the car park of the Puchberger railway station, Herwig takes me up to Losenheim.

Through the forest at the beginning, till the Edelweiß hut. Mountain St. John´s wort (Hypericum montanum) is flowering already.

At the upper outskirt of the forest, I find this aconite-leaf buttercup (Ranunculus aconitifolius)

Above the Edelweißhütte, all the clearing is covered with cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris).

Above the forest at least, and the free view goes to the Dürre Wand and Hohe Wand as well as to Puchberg.

In the screes, North-east Alpine poppy (Papaver alpinum subsp. alpinum) is in flower - here in the variant

In the grass near the Alpine dwarf pines, common kidneyvetch (Anthyllis vulneraria) and Fragrant orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea)

Alpine forget-me-not (Myosotis alpestris) is also growing here, in large areas.

At the "exit" from the Fadensteig to the plateau, between dwarf pines wood cranesbill (Geranium sylvaticum) is growing.

At least at the exit from the very steep Fadensteig in 1.723 m asl.

Whorled lousewort (Pedicularis verticillata).

A short rest, Herwig must eat a bit.

Alpine forget-me-not (Myosotis alpestris)

Mushrooms - at 1.800 m asl!

Nearly up at the Fischerhütte - Globeflowers (Trollius europaeus)

Mountain Buttercup (Ranunculus montanus).

We take a longer rest at the Fischerhütte with a drink and apple strudel. View from the patio (where we sit under a sun umbrella due to the heat)to the true Schneeberg summit named Klosterwappen.

Large areas densely covered with Eightpetal mountain-avens (Dryas octopetala). This year, I "catch" them in their fullest flower.

I walk down now from the Klosterwappen a part of the ridge called Bockgrubenriegel. Here the view goes to the upper parts of the corrie called Bockgrube.
