Marbel Quarry - Schlossberg 3.3.2015

Late morning I am readfy with my praxis work and start from home to the marble quarry, then on Schlossberg and to the ruined castle of Emmerberg.

On the first part of the path flourishing primroses (Primula vulgaris)

Stinking Hellebore (Helleborus foetidus) is in ful flower now. On this special place, there are more than 100 exemplars.

View over the vine yards to Wiener Neustadt and the Leitha mountains.

Weikersdorf and the flat pine forest with the Rosalia mountains in behind.

On a clearing in the forest flourishing Pasque flowers (Pulsatilla vulgaris)

First bloom of the cornel sherry cornel cherry bushes (Cornus mas), a short leg beneath the marble quarry.

Object of art at the marble quarry.

Stone seats with a view to Bad Fischau and Wiener Neustadt

Still snow on the Wechsel.

Bad Fischau and Wiener Neustadt

On the roof of the small bothy, in permanent shadow, last reminders of snow.

Above the marble quarry there are spots with good view to Hohe Wand and Schneeberg.

Regrettably, Schneeberg attracts clouds today. ...

... so the visibility is a bit gloomy.

Stollhof and Hohe Wand.

Maiersdorf and Zweiersdorf. The weather doesn´t improve.

In the permanent shadow of the steep Northern slope, last night´s very slight dusting of snow has survived.

The summit of Schlossberg is completely covered with forest.

From a bit beneath the summit, however, you get a nice view to Muthmannsdorf.

Still clouds on Schneeberg.

Crows give alarm, when I am approaching ...

Schneeberg and Hohe Wand ...

... and the ruined castle of Emmerberg.

I walk along the ridge till its end, which is the most beautiful view point over whole of Winzendorf. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

A good view to my house from here.

Winzendorf´s railway station ...

 ... and the school.

View over the eastern part of Winzendorf´s big limestone quarry to the southern Vienna´s plain. Behind the quarry in the forest, my path leads me down back home.
