Marble Quarry and Schlossberg 23.1.2009

This morning, there is dense ground fog over Winzendorf. A desolate day? A view on http://www.Schneeberg.tv has convinced me that it is bright above. But - the fog is somewhat frayed on its upper side. Is it windy up there? The weather report on http://www.Schneeberg.tv is showing out gusts with up to 93 km/h for Fischerhuette on Schneeberg summit !!! So, a prognosis is legitimate that the fog will not last for long.
Being a bit busy in the morning, I start as late as 10 a.m. At this time, Winzendorf faces sunshine from time to time. A last view on the website shows that indeed the fog has retreated to the planes. Having not much time cause I have to be back at 12 a.m., I drive to the outskirts of Winzendorf.

The fog is lifting soon.

A few steps further up, at the outskirts of the forest, a first view over the fog.

Quickly dissolving fog over Bad Fischau and Wiener Neustadt.

I have changed the side of the ridge and standing now at "Neue Welt - Blick" ("New World´s view"). A foeny summit cloud is hanging on Schneeberg.

Panoramic view of "Neue Welt" ("New World") from "Neue Welt Blick". Schneeberg and Hohe Wand, far left the Semmering region. Click here or into the picture for a larger version. I am now heading for Schlossberg, the small bump left in front of Schneeberg.

Now I walk down from Schlossberg summit to ruin Emmerberg.

Panoramic view over ruin Emmerberg and "Neue Welt" ("New World"). This Panorama has been put together from five considerably overlapping pictures taken in upright format! using the software Microsoft ICE ("Image Composite Editor"). ICE is an experimental software being developed and therefore it can be freely downloaded. As can be seen here, I warmly can recommend the program.
