Walking the fields 21. to 27.1.2021

Only short walkd during the cold winter.

21.1. Iced puddles besides the road to Weikersdorf.

22.1. A walk from the outskirts of Winzendorf along the vineyards, then back at the model airplane flying field.

Foen weather.

View to Wechsel and Semmering.

Prosset beck ia rather full - after icy temperatures and 10 cm of snow, today the temperature suddenly rose up to 12 °C. The deeply frozen ground cannot take the melting water - everythign goes to the beck.

25.1. - a walk on the Saubersdorf´ fields, the view from the transponder.

A heap of cobblestones of Rohrbach´ conglomerate, collectd together by the farmers. 7 millions of years ago, it was formed by the huge alluvial cone of a big river rapidly flowing down from Gloggnitz/Neunkirchen. The conglomerate is the petrified rubble of this cone, it contains limestone and dolomite, but also cristalline material from the Semmering- and Wechsel-region. The pores between the stome were filled with cristallizing limestone, like tiny stalactite caves. The whole chain of hills, along the road between Saubersdorf and St. Egyden, is built from this material, as well as the higher hills between St. Egyden and Raglitz/Neunkirchen.

Another small knoll, with Schneeberg.

Water retaining at the base of the hills.

View over the "Willendorf cove" to Schneeberg (in fact, some millions of years ago, indeed it was a cove of the sea reacing up to this level !!!).

I proceed my walk a bit in the direction of Willendorf.

Lots of water in the ground: a small private fishing pond along the road between Urschendorf and Dörfles.

In the shadow of the trees, corniced snow is keeping for much longer.

Reed along the Mori beck.

27.1.2021: Fields near Winzendorf, behind Frauen beck. A small bit of snow has added. The ground is frozen, at least superficially.

View to Schneeberg, which is wrapped in clouds today ...

... and through the Prosset gorge to ruin Emmerberg and Hohe Wand.
