23.9.2024: Torsken - Mefjordvær.

Drive along the fjords on the Northwestern coast of the isle of  Senja.

In the evening, we drove from Gryllefjord to Torsken, where we have booked a small house on a camping ground.

We find the house unheated and have to activate the electric heating, which makes it reasonably comfortable within an hour.

In the morning, we first drive back heading for Gryllefjord, which we however leave to the left ...

... to cross the bridge and tunnel to the next valley. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

Short break at the Straumsbotn, a large branching of the Bergsfjorden

Blueberries in their autumnal colours.

We climbed a small rock.

After another tunnel at the Bergsfjordveien, we reach an observation platform above the village of Bergsbotn, wonderfully constructed at a hairpin bend of the road. In front the Bergsfjorden with its very back cove the Bergsbotn.

View back in the direction of the tunnel.

Now, we did not branch off to the next tunnel, but proceeded to Skaland and, in a dead-end road, to Bøvær. At the end of this road this wonderful sand beach.

Back at the junvtion and now taken the tunnel, we have reached the dale of the Steinfjorden. The headland between the Steinfjorden and the Ersfjorden is called Tungeneset; once more, a beautiful observation platform leading down to glacier- polished rocks at the beach, where you can walk further, ...

 ...  albeit with some risk.

The special attraction here is the view to the "devil´s teeth", the mountain peaks opposite of the Ersfjorden are called.

A bit tamer in the other direction.

The rocks are partly flooded - the warnings being posted rightly.

Luckily, the waves are not ver high today.

After passing another tunnel, we arrived at today´s destination, Mefjordvær. After checking in into the hotel, I take in a short walk to the Knuten, a small hill of about 110 m, where you have a nice view to the village.

Mefjordvær. The light builing prominently built inbto the sea is the hotel, we are accomodated in on of the associated houses at the boardwalk behind.
