17.9.2024: Å - Nusfjord.
Å - the village with the shortest name in the world -impossible to have it shorter than one single letter. We booked in a "Rorbuer" - hotel : In Norway, and especially on the Lofot islands, ensembles of fishermen´s huts have been renovated and turned into hotels for visitors - and authentically constructed houses added. In such a hotel we checked in last evening for one night.
Å - a small village at the end of the world - at least at the end of the Lofot road along all of the islands. Behind is only wilderness.
A wonderful rainbow is forming.
Fishermen´s huts
A village of Fishermen´s huts. In the valley behind the village is a lake, the Ågvatnet.
The building far left ist the restaurant, where we just had breakfast.
Restaurant and some of the Fishermen´s huts.

Skerries at the coast.
These frameworks are for hanging up fish to dry.
Sørvagen
First view to Reine with its famous Reinefjord, like a freshwater lake surrounded by mountains and a small rim of islands. Here in front a big cove with the village of Reine.
Panoramic view of the (outer) cove of Reine: Reinevågen and Gravdalsbukta. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.
The cove Reinevågen.
First impression of the large fjord, as seen from the first, short bridge.

Fish heads hanging on this framework - not to be eaten, but to get an impression to how a full framework would look like.
Reinefjord with the Festhæltinden (389 m), well known from many photographs of the Lofot islands or even whole Norway.
Panoramic picture of the large Reinefjord, the narrow extensions in the back, named Forsfjorden, Bunesfjorden, Kjerkfjorden and Vorfjorden only can be adumbrated from this perspective. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.
View over the Reinefjord. To the right the prominent Festhæltinden (389 m).
The half-ring of small, tiny and narrow islands is interconnected by bridges.
After another long tunnel be reach the Vassdalsvatnet.
Wide sea to the southeast with offshore skerries.
The continent cannot be seen today.
After a drive along the sea and crossing a bridge over the Kåkersund we change from the island of Moskenesøya to the island of Flakstadøya, the next one in the Lofot archipelago. Here we pass by the Sundstraumen, a narrow sea passage, the few houses are comprising the hamlet of Straumsnes. The depth of the sea is just 4 m, and a strong streaming can be seen like that of a fast flowing river.
Panoramic picture of the Sundstraumen, with mountains of the island of Moskenesøya in behind, up to 900 m high. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.
Selfjorden to the right.
We branch off the E10, here named Flakstadveien, to head for Fredvang. View across the cove to Ramberg ...
... and to Selfjorden and Torsfjorden, respectively, to the south.
Two big bridges lead over to the village of Fredvang. Nice view from the small island of Storbuøya in front of the first of the bridges to the road, behind the prominent peak of the Volandstinden (457 m), behind to the left the Stortinden (866 m). Far left the village of Ramberg. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.
To the right of Volandstinden is the Selfjorden and the Torsfjorden. Far right the first of the bridges. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.
Passing by Fredvang we drive to the end of the road at Yttersand. View back ro Fredvang. Volandstinden seems to be much smaller (which in fact is true), being more apart.
Shower drawing in with sunny spells.
We walk a short leg along the coast to the north, however turn back after a while because the path is not very nice to walk on.
Light over Yttersand.
The brave walker.

The Yttersand cove. The sun is still shining, but more rain is drawing in.
