15.9.2024: Sandnessjøen - Glomfjord
Today, we start along the coastal road (kystriksvegen) - with many fjords and three times ferry transport.
We have to drive a bit back, once more over the impressive Helgelands bridge crossing the Leirfjorden.
View back to Sandnessjøen.
Helgelandsbrua
A few kilometres north to the Låvongsbukta, a small side-cove of the Ranfjorden,
which, spanning dozens od kilometres, reaches into the land till Mo-i-Rana.
Here we wait for the ferry from Levang to Nesna.

Låvongsbukta. The ferry appears at the horizon, ...
... is coming closer ...
...
... turns around ...
... and opens its door.
Off we sail.
Crossing the Ranfjorden ...
... to Nesna.
We now drive along the Sørfjorden.
Here, the road winds up the mountain to an altitude of near 300 m, ...
... because the slope below falls down in a steep rock escarpment to the sea.
OIpposite at the fjord a beautiful resting place at the road with an iron staircase ...
... down to the sea.
Nenches to relax - not for us due to the cold temperature and the wind.
Rocks snagged by the ice age glacier, ...
... however in places regrown by flowers.
Fish breeding (salmon?) in this cove.
View over the cove of Gjerva.
We are approaching Kilboghamn, ...
... where we enter today´s second ferry.

We are approaching our destiny Jektvika.

The third short ferry brings us from Ågskardet to Førøy.
We now drive along the Holandsfjorden and Nordfjorden in eastern direction.
The Svartisen glacier is molten heavily, ...
... its tongue reached the sea some 20 years ago.
A tourist boat brings people to the glacier, too late for us however.

At the head of the valley another glacier.
In Ørnes, today´s planned destiny, we find the hotel we reserved a room closed. We have a nice burger in a nearby restaurant and enjoy the view to the Spilderhesten in evening sunshine. Luckily, we find a room in Glomfjord, some 20 km apart.
