Marzer Kogel 8.5.2018

Looking for flowers on the Marzer Kogel with Herwig Gießwein.

After a short walk of about 20 minutes we arrive to the upper part, where the poor grassland with the flowers begins. As a starter here is a broomrape (Orobanche sp.)

The first Military orchid (Orchis militaris), (of so many we shall see today)

White dittany (Dictamnus albus) is starting to flowrish.

On the summit of the Marzer Kogel we enter the forest and are fascinated by the huge amounts of White dittany (Dictamnus albus).

Inside the forest, bastard balm (Melittis melissophyllum) is growing.

Inside the forest a few exemplars of the lady orchids (Orchis purpurea).

In this remote grassland, a few military orchids are growing, so we can identify these high flowers asd bastards between military and lady orchid.

From the summit of the Marzer Kogel you can see the Schneeberg.

At the end, we pay a visit to the lady´s slipper orchids (Cypripedium calceolus) near Sauerbrunn, wich also already is in flower this year.
