Lakeland Holiday May 14th to May 21st, 2011

This year´s walking holiday in England´s Lake District was a half - disappointment. It rained from 15th to 17th, so there are no pictures from these three days. Sunday, 15th was spent with a good book in bed and in front of the fire place, Monday was dedicated to a drive to Loweswater, where I walked Fellbarrow and Low fell in wind, drizzle and mist (no photographs). After a nice lunch meeting with Roger and Ann Hiley, I was over to Keswick and George Fisher´s to buy some waterproofs of good English quality. In the afternoon, a delicious dinner with Jill Batchelor (and - surprise - the Hiley´s) in her rented Boathouse cottage, who spontaneously invited me when I called her on the mobile telephone suggesting to meet because me being in Keswick.

Tuesday May 17th I walked up Buckbarrow, Seatallan and Middle Fell, in rain, drizzle, strong wind and dense mist, with big difficulties in orientation (but the constant wind direction and the noise of Nether Beck helped), finally found the way using map and compass (with some detours, however). No pictures, I did not want to soak and ruin the camera, so left it in the B&B.

May 18th - a Mosedale Horseshoe with Pillar, Scoat Fell, Steeple and Red Pike, walking down Dore Head Screes.

May 19th - Wasdale Screes - down and up

May 20th - Walking up Yewbarrow in rain and mist (no pictures) and a gentle afternoon stroll after midday´s weather clearing.

May 21st - a short stroll on the coast at Seascale on the drive back to the airport.
