Dreistetten - Hohe Wand 12.12.2013

Yesterday´s high fog has come down, this morning, www.Schneeberg.tv shows that it only reaches to the foothills of Hohe Wand. Therefore, it is not necessary to drive to Losenheim like yesterday to escape the mist. Having time only two hours, I drive the short way up to Dreistetten and walk to the Herrgottschnitzerhaus.

A short leg before the route goes into the forest, the contours of the Hohe Wand can be seen through the uppermost layers of the mist.

A bit up inside the forest ...

 ... the sun is out.

A short clearing ...

...  laying in the shadow  ...

... and the route strts its steep section, called Drobilsteig, a very short ferrata with ladders and handrails. Although walking on the ladders isn´t optimal with them, I am glad to be able to make use of my Kahtoola Spikes. You are feeling much better on the steep and slippery terrain in between.

Now the path is leading ...

... through much flatter terrain  ...

... till I reach the viewpoint at the Herrgottschnitzerhaus.

The transponder and the chapel on top of the Rosalia mountains just poking out of the mist.

Bucklige Welt, with the huge wind turbine near Lichtenegg.

The Wechsel area

After 15 minutes of meditation in the bright sunshine, I have to walk back ...

... through the forest, this time using the other, more flat and comfortable route. It´s not so convenient going steep down over ladders, with or withut spikes. BTW: the spikes are perfect on a steep descent on wet and slippery foliage.

A fir tree has fallen in recent gales, now laying across the path.
