Hohe Wand 24.4.2008

Bright weather this morning though a bit cool and some wind, but having not been out for some time I decide to go for a walk on Hohe Wand.

I start near Dreistetten and choose the route (Drobilsteig) via Einhornhoehle (english: "Unicorn Cave). Here is a view to ruin Starhemberg.

Greater stitchwort (Stellaria holostea) in a shadowy place.

Grassland near Dreistetten with lots of Cowslips (Primula veris).

Now the steep ascent (Drobilsteig) beside  ...

... and under rock escarpments bearing the cave.

On the upper end of these rocks the forest is much more flat; Spring vetchling Frühlingsplatterbsen (Lathyrus vernus).

Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) still blooming in shadowy places.

View from ther northeastern end of Hohen Wand (near Herrgottschnitzerhaus). Dreistetten in front, Piesting behind, Wiener Becken in the background..

View from the same point in direction soth-east. Frankenhof and rehabilitation centre Felbring, Neue Welt and Fischauer Berge behind with the Prosset gorge. In the background Rosalia mountains and Bucklige Welt.

On the steep escarpment between the rocks Cypress spurge (Euphorbia cyparissias)

Blooming Wild cherry

I walk a bit along the escarpment in direction of Hubertushaus. A second view point with Cypress spurge and grape hyacinths.(Muscari racemosum).

"Why do you look like that? I´m dwelling here, please let me alone." - glad to have Sheila on the lead!

Once more cypress spurge

Perfoliate Penny Cress (Thlaspi perfoliatum)

On the edge of the plateau ...

... here with the view to southeast

Wood Spurge (Euphorbia amygdaloides) in the light forest and grass.

I descended by Bruennl - Ries and took a shortage at its end ...

... to find this large grassland ...

 ... near Frankenhof.

Lots of dandelions ...

 ... and blooming trees.

Blue Bugle (Ajuga reptans)

Dandelions ...

 ... and daisies. Pretty weed.

After passing Frankenhof, near the path further on to Dreistetten: grape hyacinths

A spot of sunshine on Hohe Wand, where I have been just before.

Greater stitchwort (Stellaria holostea) near the path.

Back to the cowslips near Dreistetten. Young green on larches.

On the drive home, shortly before passing the Prosset gorge, a yellow shining field. Having some spare time, I cannot hold myself driving closer. Thousands of dndelions - with Hohe Wand in behind, far right the region where I have been walking today.

View in direction Prosset Gorge (Mitterberg to the right)

A glimps on Schneeberg.

Ruin Emmerberg

Once more a small sector with Stollhof in the background
