Grundlsee, Toplitzsee 28.10.2016
Yesterday it rained, so we spent most of the day in the hotel. Today, Bad Aussee is covered with dense fog, which should dissolve before noon. We have planned a trip to Grundlsee and Toplitzsee, our boat is scheduled to leave at 11:30. Time enough, I find some webcams showing that the mist doesn´t reach up very high - so I spontanuously decide to try my luck once more at the Sommersbergsee.
And behold - the sun is shining here ...
... with mist swirling in very close proximity.
The mist is really very close to the lake Sommersberg. Click here or into the picture for a larger display.

I have to turn back. otherwise we won´t catch our boat.

And off we sail ...

Crossing a short leg of wood ...
...
...
... and we are arrived at the Lake Toplitz.
Reed.
The lake outflow and the Gössl wall.
A short stroll ...
... along the western end of the lake.
These trunks will sink down into the lake some time ... but not till the ground, because from a depth of 20 metres, the water is a saturated salt solution being much denser than wood.
We just missed a boat, so have half an hour time.
The jetty.
Lake Toplitz is up to 101 m deep - no wonder the water is that black.
Rock escarpments going down straight into the water.
We sail with an engined "Plätte", a flat wooden boat.
Autumn leaves drawing by.
Hinterbach - waterfall comes down from near 200 m height ...
... direktly into the lake.
Soon approaching the head of the lake.
View back. Completely unpassable shores on both sides.
From the head of the lake, we walk a very short path to the "Kammersee", with the origin of the river Traun. As I don´t have a fish eye lens, I have to fuse 12 single exposures to this picture in this extremely narrow valley.
View back over the Toplitzsee.
After about 20 minutes we sail back.
Gössl wall.
Black lake, indeed!
I have another short stroll along the shore, as long as it is reasonably flat.
Another boat leaving.
We treat ourselves to a coffee in the Fischerhütte inn.
I succeed persuading the others to come to that lovely shore I explored before ...
... followed by a gentle walk back, ...
... once more along the Gössl wall.
