Grasslands on the Gahns Massive 7.5.2015

Together with Herwig Gießwein I start from Gasteil for a visit of the two orchid grasslands of the Gahns massive.

Kleewiese. As compared to my visit 2 years ago, the vegetation isn´t  that developed.

View to Ternitz

Though everything being late, lots of Elder flowered orchids (Dactylorhiza sambucina) are out - and at their best.

Growing densely in places.

Spring Gentian (Gentiana verna) in between.

Tiny yellow pollen grains sticking to the petals - the spruces are flowrishing.

Elder flowered orchids (Dactylorhiza sambucina). The yellow variant is much more frequent here.

Hunting lodge on the Kleewiese.

Back to  Gsteil - "Art in the landscape"

We have driven a short distance and are now walking to the Gahnshauswiese. In the forest trifoliate bittercress (Cardamine trifolia) ...

... and die wood spurge (Euphorbia amygdaloidea)

Here, thousands of green winged orchids (Orchis morio) are growing.
