9th September 2018 Lake Hallstatt

Today we have to return home, but the drive would be not too long, so we decide to do a short walk late morning along Lake Hallstatt.

At the start I have to take this picture of Dachstein from the hotel car park.

We start in Obertraun, near the boat jetty.

View to the West over the southern park of lake Hallstatt.

After a short leg the view goes back to Obertraun.

After we have bypassed the peninsula with Grub castle, all of which regrettably is in private ownership, we walk along the eastern shore in Northern direction.

Free view to the famous town of Hallstatt now.

After having passed the train station "Hallstatt" (from where you reach Hallstatt only with the ship), we walk into the cove in eastern direction. Here, the lake is up to 125 m deep, the slope goes down steeply into the lake and is continued the same way beneath the water level.

The train is built here into the steep slope, and this gorge is spanned by bridge. Full legth of the steep section, the path is built on steel girders, over the gorge a suspension bridge was built in parallel to the railway bridge.

Looking back to Hallstatt. Here, we turn back.

Back near Obertraun.

Small park near the boat jetty.

We call into a nice cafe on a terrace close to the lake, for a coffee, and drive home afterwards.
